Activities
The Port of Sète is France’s eighth-largest commercial port, handling approximately 6 million tonnes of cargo in 2025.
As a key driver of regional economic development, it is widely recognized as a successful example of city–port integration. Serving as a vital interface between maritime, logistics, tourism, and urban activities, the port plays a central role in the region’s growth while preserving residents’ quality of life and the city’s strong maritime identity.
Supporting around 2,300 direct jobs, the Port of Sète generates significant economic benefits for the Occitanie Region through its commercial, fishing, leisure boating, and cruise activities.
In response to the challenges of ecological transition and global competitiveness, the port has adopted an ambitious strategy focused on decarbonizing port operations, promoting modal shift toward rail and inland waterways, supporting future-oriented industrial sectors, particularly renewable energy industries, and fostering innovation and environmental performance.
This vision is part of a broader sustainable development approach aimed at balancing economic growth, environmental stewardship, and stronger connections between the port, the city, and local communities.
