Activities

As the second-largest inland port in France and the leading freight rail hub in Alsace, the Port of Strasbourg is a genuine multimodal transport platform. Each year, it handles around 7 million tonnes of bulk freight, by river and rail, as well as more than 300,000 container handling operations.

The Port of Strasbourg combines economic development with ecological, economic, industrial and energy transitions, following a dual approach: contributing to local, national and European public policies while mobilising new growth drivers. It brings together around 500 companies and more than 10,000 direct jobs across its various sites in the Bas-Rhin department, from Marckolsheim to Lauterbourg.

The Port of Strasbourg continues to strengthen its integration into the urban fabric through the development contract signed with the City of Strasbourg, the Eurométropole of Strasbourg and the Grand Est Region. Its two subsidiaries, Rhine Europe Terminals and Batorama, fully support this dynamic: the former ensures the efficient management of container terminals and several sites along the Rhine, while the latter contributes to the region’s tourism appeal. Together, they illustrate the port’s ability to reconcile economic and logistics activities with openness to the city.
