The stated-owned Port System in Spain consists of 46 Ports of General Interest, managed by 28 Port Authorities. Puertos del Estado is the Spanish State Ports Agency responsible for coordination and efficiency control and depends on the Ministry of Public Works and Transport. Puertos del Estado is in charge of the execution of Government’s port policy. Spanish legislation encourages an adequate integration of ports with the cities in which they are located and the preservation of Spanish Historic Heritage within the Ports of General Interest. Consequently, every port has investment projects providing actions related to the integration between ports and cities.
