About the expert

With a background in the energy sector, Nicolas MAT has spent eight years working in consultancy, providing support for sustainable development projects in France and around the world, on behalf of local authorities and communities, industrial and institutional clients, in the fields of energy and territorial and industrial ecology. Holder of a Masters in Environmental Management and Sustainable Development from the Technological University of Troyes (France) and the University of Sherbrooke (Canada), since 2006 he has contributed to the deployment of over a dozen territorial and industrial ecology initiatives (operational projects and action research projects). Between 2011 and 2012, he also realised and coordinated an international review of industrial ecology initiatives undertaken in port territories. He is a doctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Industrial Environment Engineering, part of the Ecole des Mines engineering school in Alès, France. His research work, which began in 2012, is focused on the role of port territories in the context of the ecological and energy transition. He lectures regularly on the subject at universities and engineering institutes.
