New York City (USA) has approved a €3.3B plan to transform the Brooklyn Marine Terminal into a modern, all-electric port and lively waterfront district. The 24-ha site will feature 6,000 homes (2,400 affordable), 11 ha of new open space, and over 25,500 m² of industrial and commercial facilities, plus cultural and community hubs. Resiliency works will guard against rising seas and storms. Expected to deliver €17B in economic impact, the project will create 37,000 construction jobs and 2,000 permanent jobs. Supported by €395M in public funding and shaped with input from 4,200 residents, the plan is a cornerstone of NYC’s vision for a sustainable “Harbor of the Future.”
