The Port of Genoa is unique in as much as it extends along a 22-kilometre stretch of coastline, effectively surrounded by the city, with the result that a large part of the working port coastline has the dual function of urban waterfront. Consequently, the Port Authority seeks to pave the way for a competitive port and for a healthy local economy, whilst also focusing greater attention on environmental issues.
The new Port Master Plan is a bold response to the need to identify a new model for port development, in collaboration with local government and the other public and private stakeholders, and to improve relations between the port and the city which in Genoa live side by side.
There are specific areas where this dichotomy is heightened. The Prà container terminal, the cruise/ferry areas in the historical part of the port and the shipbuilding / repair sector are three examples of the complex relationship between enhanced port activities and the surrounding urban fabric and they are also examples of concerted planning on the part of Local Government and the Port Authority.
A mix of planning ideas and “immaterial” actions has been proposed to meet both port operational and urban regeneration requirements and to improve the integration of the working port.
After graduation in Transport and Maritime e Economics in 2003, Paola Giampietri specialised in Maritime and Port Economics and Management with a Master Degree.
She joined the Genoa Port Authority in 2004 where she worked in the Planning and Development Department, with the responsibility of port strategic planning, concession agreements management, port competition analysis, maritime and logistics studies, macroeconomic researches.
Since the beginning of 2014, Paola is in charge of the Port Master Plan Office, whose tasks mainly concerns the elaboration of the new Genoa Port Master Plan, the evaluation of the compliance of building projects with the Port Master Plan, the planning of the new port infrastructure developments and the joint planning with the Genoa Municipality of the port-city interface areas.
Adv Phyllis Motsatsi Difeto has extensive experience serving at various senior management positions including being a Senior Commissioner with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (“CCMA”), Transnet National Ports Authority and Transnet Group.
Phyllis is appointed by the Minister of Public Works as the Councillor for the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession. Further, she is appointed by the Minister of Trade and Industry as a Designate Member to the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Advisory Board.
She was appointed by the Minister of Transport as the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Auditor for the South African Government under the IMO Voluntary Organisation Audit Scheme. She was a member of the South African Working Group established by the Government to review existing legislation and develop new enabling maritime labour legislation as a process of ratifying the Maritime Labour Convention. She is a Director for Global Maritime Legal Solutions (Pty) Ltd. She has also participated in the Presidential Ocean Lab initiative intended to maximise the economic potential of South African ocean.
During South Africa’s Chairmanship for the Global BRICS Business Council she served as Secretariat for the Global BRICS Business Council, South Africa BRICS Business Council and the BRICS Business Council Financial Services Working Group. She was exposed to engagements at a platform which strengthens and promotes economic, trade, business and investment ties amongst the Business communities of the five BRICS countries.
All major projects needs water to operate. In the nautical industry, the growing size of boats needs the immediate vicinity of the water. The Italian nautical sector creates one-off and for this needs many specialized labour skills of handmade excellence: furniture, upholstery, and metal trim. This involves a number of important outsourcing and this is not always easy to make clear to citizens who take into account only direct and not indirect numbers. In addition, the finished product is a valuable asset, which is often necessary to keep in confidence far from the people and from the curious. It will be interesting to explore the question of socio-economic activity of Benetti, the world’s motor boats company creating ships over 30 meters. It will be interesting to present also the impact on the port city territory – its ability to integrate physically – and to face challenges to ensure the sustainable development of the activity.
Pietro Angelini has a experience matured within the area of company consultancy, company organization, professional training, human resource, marketing and communication specialized in yacht business/marine industries. He is the Executive manager of NAVIGO scarl, the innovation pole and cluster of nautical department in Tuscany, where the most important yacht shipyards in viareggio like Azimut Benetti are associated (over 350 nautical companies). He works also as a event Coordinator for YARE yacht refit exhibition, a Journalist for marine industry publications and a public speaker for international events. He has coordinated following projects :

Jean Pierre Lecomte is a professional in the freight transport and port industry. During his career with the SAGA Group, until 1993 he was president and CEO of Jokelson SA, shipping agents, and also Setrec, a road haulage firm. From 1993 onwards, he took on a number of senior roles, particularly in the fields of marine insurance and freight transport. He also became a prominent figure in the economic life of Le Havre with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the UMEP (port and maritime federation) and the Union Patronale de la Région Havraise (employers’ union, part of Medef). In addition, he has been an advisor to the Banque de France’s Le Havre branch, and an economic and social advisor to the Upper Normandy region. In 1998, he was elected president of the Port of Le Havre, a position he held for over 10 years. He was appointed president of AIVP in 2009.

James Eyre BSc (Hons) joined the team in Titanic Quarter Ltd in August 2006 and is responsible for the delivery of the Titanic Group’s development projects, management of the Group’s assets and the estate management of Titanic Quarter.
Prior to joining Titanic Quarter Ltd, James was a Director of McCormick Properties plc, responsible for the planning and implementation of both residential and commercial schemes.
James is a graduate of the University of Ulster and continues to maintain contact with the University as a guest lecturing regularly to a suite of real estate programmes.
Owen P Keegan was appointed as Dublin City Council Chief Executive, in September 2013 having served as County Manager of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council from February 2006. Before joining DLRCC he worked for Dublin City Council, where he was Assistant City Manager and then Director of Traffic.
Prior to October 1993 he worked as an economist for DKM Economic Consultants/Davy Stockbrokers. He has also worked in the Department of Finance, the ESRI and for two periods in the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government.
Mr Keegan is from Dublin. He holds degrees in public administration, economics and civil engineering.
Dublin has always been a port city. Indeed, the port itself came before the city, just over twelve hundred years ago. The city grew in and around the activities of the port and it seagoing traffic. The community of Dubliners were all, directly and indirectly, linked with the life of what was soon to be the largest port in the north west of Europe.
Through the next seven centuries, as Dublin grew, the river Liffey was central to the City of Dublin and port activity was the daily scene for citizens on either side of the river. But as shipping modernised the size of trading vessels increased and so began the slow but inexorable movement of the port down river to deeper moorings. In time, port workers and their communities followed and became detached, slowly separated from the rest of Dubliners.
In 1988/9 Ireland, with Government leadership, decided to establish a financial services industry to take advantage of the liberalisation, worldwide, of financial markets. The land left behind by the down river movement of modern port activity, was for the first time in over 250 years reconnected with the rest of the Capital.
In 1997 the government established the Dublin Docklands Development Authority to further develop this area. Its work has been a great success. The old port, established by Vikings twelve hundred years ago, is now home to many new and peaceful invaders working in a place that the locals call Silicon Docks!
Ruairí is a T.D. for Dublin South-East and has been a public representative since 1974. Before entering public life, Ruairí was an architect and town planner. His depth of experience and political acumen is extensive, having served as a Minister in six different Departments, including as Minister for Finance from 1993-1997, and as Leader of the Labour Party between 1997 and 2002. He was director of elections for Mary Robinson’s Presidential Campaign in 1990 and is currently Treasurer of the Party of European Socialists. He was Minister for Education and Skills from 2011-2014 and is widely recognised as being one of the most reforming ministers in this portfolio since the foundation of the state where he oversaw a change agenda that spans all areas of education.
Claire Byrne is a Radio and TV Broadcaster with the national service provider RTÉ where she specialises in current affairs programmes.
Claire presents the brand new show Claire Byrne Live on Monday nights on RTÉ One and RTÉ News Now. The hour-long current affairs programme features a live studio audience, along with a new set, graphics and some additional features. Previously she was part of RTÉ’s flagship current affairs programme Prime Time which brings in-depth analysis of current issues and topical reports for two years.
Claire currently hosts a current affairs programme on Saturday afternoon called Saturday with Claire Byrne on RTÉ Radio 1. The topical current affairs show questions agendas and dissects the week gone by along with debating the likely issues of the week to come. She joined the Morning Ireland team on RTÉ Radio 1 as one of the core presenters in the Autumn 2013. Morning Ireland is broadcast each weekday morning and is the top rated radio programme in the Republic of Ireland with an estimated listenership of 467,000 by the Joint National Listenership Survey.

A native of Mountrath in County Laois, Claire began her broadcasting career in radio and worked for the BBC in the Channel Islands as a broadcast journalist before becoming News Editor with a Channel 103FM.
The city of Huelva is located on the estuary of the rivers Tinto and Odiel. Its urban development is concentrated along the left bank of the river Odiel, where the infrastructure of the Inner Harbor is located, as well as facilities of an important basic chemical industrial complex settled since the 1960s. This left bank of the Odiel river forms part of the Service Area of the Port of Huelva, and consists of marshes, dunes and river beaches that since the industrialization have suffered serious environmental degradation.
In order to environmentally restore the area and to promote the social use and the integration of the Harbour in the city of Huelva, the Port Authority of Huelva is undertaking various actions of social and ecological restoration in a stretch of five kilometers on the left bank of the river Odiel. Such actions are: the environmental restoration of marshes, dunes and beaches deteriorated over four kilometers, and the creation of a riverwalk of one kilometer in the most deteriorated marshes which are closer to the city of Huelva. The goals of the project have been the following:
– Diversification and conservation of protected habitats and species of high environmental interest, included on some European red lists.
– Enhancement of the natural resources of the area.
– Improvement and diversification in the functionality of the marshes due to the construction of an infrastructure adjacent to and above the marshes that connects the city of Huelva and the Port.
– Stabilization and restoration of the marshes.
– Erosion control in areas of low marsh.
– Environmental information.
After environmental monitoring studies, it is possible to show that the project has recovered with great success both, the ecological functions of the marsh ecosystem and the influx of citizens and tourist to the area. The project budget was 27 million €.

I am specialized in environmental management in the port-industry sector where I have been developing my functions since 2004, specifically for the Departments and Areas of Port Operations, Infrastructures, Port Public Domain, and Strategy in the Port Authority of Huelva, the largest Port in Spain.
I have developed and worked on projects related to environmental monitoring, the monitoring of air quality, spills, pollution of soils and projects waste management, environmental and landscape restoration, and pollution prevention.
I have also conducted monitoring environmental impacts and aspects related to port operations, construction of major infrastructure, port facilities – Industrial located in the Port of Huelva, as well as managing the Port Public Domain.
The intervention in the management of environmental incidents, the managing of the environmental risks and the development of manuals, procedures and work instructions for environmental management system, are also important issues developed in the Port of Huelva. Many of these projects have been published and exhibited in various national congresses.
