Activities

Brest Métropole is the nerve center of western Brittany. A gateway to the Atlantic Ocean, located a stone's throw from one of the world's busiest shipping routes and protected by its exceptional 180 km² harbor, Brest Métropole serves a catchment area covering 120 municipalities and representing 430,000 inhabitants. It is made up of eight founding municipalities with a combined population of nearly 212,000.

The metropolitan area has been entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities by the state and the municipalities, including economic, social, and cultural development; public policy in the areas of urban policy, social action, and housing; urban planning; mobility; and urban ecology, to name but a few. Its port is a strategic tool for attractiveness and development, integrated into the TEN-T core network since 2023.

In 2025, Brest Métropole adopted a new regional project, the metropolitan project “Brest 2050: Brest Métropole, hospitable and ambitious.” This document sets out the region's guidelines and ambitions to ensure its development over the next 25 years, while taking care not to leave anyone behind.
