Caya Hein participated on May 7th in a panel titled “Port Cities and Marine Champions” during the annual conference of the Great Lakes and Saint Lawrence Cities Initiative that took place in Hamilton (Canada). Alongside Mayor Matthew Shoemaker from the city of Sault Ste. Marie (Canada) and Benji Timm, the Port Director of Port of Milwaukee (USA), Caya discussed how port cities can balance economic growth with community priorities and strengthen the port-city collaboration. Through various AIVP member cases, such as Valparaiso Dialoga and the Port-City Vision of Québec, she highlighted the need for transparency in decision-making and the inclusion of all communities surrounding and in the port for social acceptance. Caya also presented the Port Center by AIVP as a unique and vital tool in facilitating the Port-City relationship.
