The reconversion of the Port of Tangier City, launched in 2010 under the impetus of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, now stands as an international benchmark in terms of urban integration. Transformed from a historic port area into a true hub of attractiveness, the project was distinguished in 2024 with the AIVP Antoine Rufenacht Award. Its success is based on a comprehensive approach that redefines the city’s identity. The enhancement of heritage took shape through the restoration of the Medina’s ramparts and the creation of new cultural spaces. From an urban planning perspective, more than 30 hectares of public spaces have turned the port into a place for walking and leisure for residents. The economic dimension has not been overlooked: the rise of cruise tourism, high-end yachting, and ferry passenger transport has fostered the creation of thousands of jobs. In 2025, performance figures confirm the maturity of the model, with 1.52 million ferry passengers on the Tangier–Tarifa route, 170,000 cruise passengers, and a marina showing a record occupancy rate. The Port of Tangier City thus symbolizes a new way of thinking about ports, serving the city and its citizens.
