The International Association of Cities and Ports (AIVP) took part in the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Port Center of Livorno, hosted by the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority. The event highlighted the central role of Port Centers in strengthening the port-city relationship and fostering informed and continuous dialogue with citizens. As one of the founder members of the AIVP Port Center Network, the Livorno Port Center has contributed significantly over the past decade to the international development of this shared approach to port-city relations.
Bruno Delsalle, Director General of AIVP, joined the welcome remarks, emphasizing the strategic importance of Port Centers as tools for transparency, mutual understanding and long-term coexistence between ports and cities. This perspective was further developed through the presentation by José M. P. Sánchez, AIVP representative, who introduced the new Port Center Charter, outlining its vision, objectives and guiding principles. The Charter provides a common reference framework for Port Centers worldwide, while allowing each port city to adapt actions to its own territorial, social and cultural context. Following this presentation, the new Port Center Charter was officially signed by Bruno Delsalle and Davide Gariglio, the President of the North Tyrrhenian Port Network Authority, marking a renewed shared commitment to the Port Center Network.
The program also featured presentations illustrating the dynamism of the Livorno port-city ecosystem and the broader network. Greta Marini presented the experience of the Port Center of Le Havre, sharing operational insights and best practices, while other contributions focused on current and future projects, including the ongoing upgrade of the Livorno Port Center, the launch of the Piombino Port Center project, and wider initiatives such as the “Miglio Blu di Livorno” cultural strategy, reinforcing Livorno’s role as a laboratory for port-city innovation.
AIVP warmly congratulates the Port Center of Livorno on its tenth anniversary and reaffirms its commitment to supporting strong, inclusive and forward-looking port-city relationships.
