Port Cities are at the forefront of global pressing issues, such as the rising sea levels, the decarbonization of maritime transport and urban areas, and the protection of the oceans. The UN Ocean Conference, which will take place in 2025 in Nice, or the yearly COPs from the UNFCCC are key moments to accelerate policies and foster cooperation. Entries announced for the AIVP Antoine Rufenacht Prize

The deadline for entering the inaugural AIVP Antoine Rufenacht Prize officially passed on 21 July 2024. More than 20 projects were submitted, representing many different port cities all over the world. The impressive level of participation reflects the strong interest shown by local and port authorities in this initiative, aimed at promoting the most outstanding approaches to port-city interface development. The Expert Panel has already begun the task of assessing the entries, and will whittle them down to a final shortlist. A Grand Jury will then convene on 10 and 11 October 2024 in Le Havre, where AIVP’s headquarters are based, to judge the finalists. The winning entry will be officially announced on 27 November in Lisbon, at a ceremony held during the AIVP World Conference.

Port of Saguenay completes the AIVP self-assessment tool

To help its members achieve the ten goals identified by its 2030 Agenda, AIVP launched a dedicated self-assessment tool in November 2023. The self-assessment tool should be carried out annually to enable the ports and cities of the AIVP network to monitor their progress towards the 2030 Agenda goals. The Port of Saguenay (Canada) is the first member to have completed the seaport self-assessment, as part of its policy looking at the different ways in which it can contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. In this interview, we discuss how the self-assessment helped the Port pursue that policy.
