AIVP cooperates with Union for the Mediterranean for port cities

Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), the supranational organization bringing together countries from both north and south sides of the Mediterranean Sea, organized a conference on September 29th in Barcelona, with the title “Sustainable Urbanisation through Port City Transformation”. AIVP supported this event and joined the meeting, represented by Dr. José M P Sánchez, moderating the session “Experiences from port-city collaboration”, building on the broad expertise our organization has on good practices for port cities. The session counted with speakers from the Mediterranean port cities of Haifa (Israel) and Tangier (Morocco)

Sustainably cruising into World Tourism Day

World Tourism Day has been held on 27 September since 1980. As the tourism sector continues to grow, the impacts it has on the environment is increasing as well. The cruise industry has been taking measures to reduce its impact and to sail its way into a sustainable future. As the sector was heavily impacted by Covid during the past two years, it has taken the time to reshape itself. Green corridors for cruise ships have been created, cruise lines have discussed with cities and ports on how to collaborate more sustainably, and some lines have banned single use plastic. To understand better the steps that ports, municipalities, and cruise organisations are taking to support the sustainable transition of cruising, we have asked some of our members the following question for World Tourism Day: "How can local authorities (port authorities and municipalities) support sustainable cruise/maritime tourism in port cities?"

5th Meeting of the AIVP – MedCruise Working Group on Cruises and Port Cities

AIVP and MedCruise hosted together on the 20th of September the 5th meeting of the shared Working Group focusing on cruises and port cities. The topic of this session was community building, key issue for a sustainable interaction between cruises, port cities and its citizens.

AIVP participates in World Bank’s Workshop on port city mobility

On September 29th, the World Bank in cooperation with the European Union Delegation to Türkiye (EUD) and with the support of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) organized a workshop entitled “Urban Mobility and Port Cities”. AIVP was represented by Dr. José M Pagés Sánchez, Director of the AIVP Agenda 2030, joining the 3rd Panel Discussion – “Bringing Life to the Port: Urban Transport”.
