AIVP in Amsterdam (Netherlands) for a new European “Connected River” project

From Tuesday 28 to Thursday 30 March, the thirteen partners involved in the European “Connected River” project met in Amsterdam (Netherlands). The meeting marked the start of work by this new cooperation initiative focusing on rivers, waterways, and waterfronts. The AIVP is among the participants in this major European project. Our association has agreed to disseminate the best practices identified following pilot schemes in five countries: the port of Amsterdam and the city of Nijmegen (Netherlands), the port of Hamburg (Germany), the ports of Lille (France), the city of Vordinborg (Denmark), and the Kleine Nette river in Flanders (Belgium). The ambitious consortium has a shared goal, to find solutions to mitigate conflicts between the different uses of these spaces in river port cities.

New member : Port of San Diego (USA) – Engine of the Blue Economy

The Port of San Diego is an important economic driver for the San Diego region in California, including the five cities around San Diego Bay – Chula Vista, Coronado, Imperial Beach, National City, and San Diego. This seaport is one of the 30 largest ports in the United States and plays an important role in protecting the 34 miles of waterfront and tidelands under its management while providing a balanced approach to the maritime industry, tourism, recreation, the environment, and public safety. The Port collaborates with various local, state, and federal agencies and its many communities and stakeholders on various projects and initiatives in support of commerce, community, and the environment.

In May 2023, the AIVP is launching the first edition in Spanish of its distance learning programme 'PORT CITIES AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT' created in partnership with the International Institute of Ports Cities (IIPC), based in Chile. This programme is aimed at decision-makers who have to act and develop their activities within the City-Port ecosystem. AIVP & MedCruise – Cruises and Port Cities Working Group : Call for applications

The AIVP and MedCruise launched in November 2021 a joint Working Group on Sustainable Port-City Relations and Cruises. This group, bringing together 25 members from both organisations, focused on exchanging good practices and discussing new policies and solutions relevant to the cruise sector aimed at reducing its impact in port cities and finding a balanced relationship. In 2023, the group's mission is to create a charter to structure the Port - City - Cruise relationship. Would you like to join this Working Group? Send your application before 15 April 2023.
