Alongside the Brussels-Capital region, the Port of Brussels (Belgium) commits to biodiversity

Following the agreement signed with Bruxelles Environnement in 2019, the Port of Brussels installed plant rafts designed by Biomatrix and Ecocéan (a member of AIVP) on 26 April 2022. Formed of cages made from coconut fibre and aquatic plants, the rafts will serve as refuges for biodiversity in the canals. They will encourage egg-laying and the development of juvenile fish, as their structure will soon be covered with micro-organisms on which they will feed. If it proves successful, the project could be continued with funding from the Brussels-Capital region, and will be included in the new environmental policies under the port operating agreement.

Montreal (Canada): an environmental study for the town of Contrecœur

In the coming months, the organisation Arbre-Évolution will be conducting a study of afforestation and wildlife connectivity in Contrecœur natural environments. The project aims to identify sites with the best potential for restoration or reforestation in this municipality, located a short distance north of the port of Montreal.  Based on the findings, various environmental protection measures will be deployed in connection with plans to expand the Port of Montreal in Contrecoeur. The study will also document the condition of local ecosystems and allow projects to be supported.
