[documentary] Quai des brunes, women dockworkers on Reunion Island

Discover the film directed by Claire Perdrix with the support of AIVP. Réunion's seaport, France's fourth largest, is the island's economic lung, a world of fantasy and steel, a symbol of union struggles and manly codes. Today, around twenty women work there, dockers "at the foot of the boat" like their male colleagues. Until now, no other French port had dared to have a mixed workforce on the docks, and this small revolution has taken place in one of the departments where professional equality is struggling to emerge. By looking at the lives of these women workers, this film examines the place of 21st century women in Reunionese society and, more generally, the impact of their presence in a bastion hitherto reserved for men.

Louise, new International Development Coordinator on work-study placement in the AIVP team

Louise Poret has just joined the AIVP team as a work-study student until September 2024. She is currently doing a master's degree in management and international trade through an apprenticeship scheme at the University of Le Havre Normandie. The Online Associate Degree in Port City Sustainability begins in October 2023, created in partnership with the International Institute of Port Cities (IIPC), based in Chile. The aim of this training programme is to support the various stakeholders of the ports and territories in their efforts to achieve the sustainable development objectives.

“Port City Atlas” now available, supported by AIVP

On 30 June 2023, a new book entitled “Port City Atlas” (nai010 publishers, Netherlands, only available in English) officially went on sale. Port cities are particularly well suited to cartographic analysis and spatial mapping. They are nodes for maritime flows, inspire opposition or coalitions, and are central to public policy at the local, regional, and national levels. For these reasons, the President of AIVP, Edouard Philippe, Mayor of Le Havre (France), was keen to write the preface to the book. AIVP’s General Manager, Bruno Delsalle, was at the book’s official launch on 30 June representing the association’s Executive Committee, and expressed his hope that it would be a great success.
